Cilentani Artefacts
From our diary, the backstage of the courses for the young guests of Oliveto a Mare
In a corner of the square, beyond the old door, as if defending itself against homologating modernity, a small door. We open it halfway between hesitant and amused ... and we discover something we didn't expect.Carla and Marianna, mosaicist and ceramic artist, are two young Cilentans who, with freshness and talent, illuminate the headquarters of ‘Artefatti’, a small workshop of stone and clay masterpieces. With them is also Nicola and, this morning, many children participating in art courses. A ceramic artist too, he quickly takes his leave, surrounded by his students, while we stop to chat and sip coffee with the two artists.
Carla studied painting in Naples. Then, just as if in a novel, on a day trip like any other, she is struck by a mosaic and falls in love with that material design, which will become her life partner. Marianna also starts from painting and, like Carla, ceramic arrives by chance (luckily, we add). And while Carla chooses to move to Ravenna to study mosaic, Marianna leaves for Deruta for a 15-day course. She will stay for 5 years.
"One day we should open a workshop together”: they do. And they fill it with enthusiasm, passion, innovation, a lot of study and a rare sensitivity.
We couldn’t let chance guide some lucky customer here.
We wanted our guests to get to know this little big world.
And so, together with Carla, Marianna and Nicola we decided to give them the chance with special courses organized for children ...
and for adults too, those who know, after all, that the child still lives in them.
