Angelo Loia and the Cilento author music
A tale of migration in reverse
If we had to choose the name of the protagonist of the Serate Cilentane … it would be his name.
His stories and his guitar , accompanied by extraordinary musicians and singers , were a caress for the soul .
But, once silence has returned to that corner of the garden , who is Angelo ?
Maestro Angelo Loia , stimulated by the rediscovery of popular music in Italy in the 90s , at a certain point, decides to return for a while where his roots call him.
Son of Cilento parents in Milan, he leaves the city where he grew up and immerses himself in a musical project that also includes his mother's brother, Aniello De Vita , father of the Cilento songwriter , "a doctor for a living and a singer-songwriter so as not to die", as he defined himself.
And in order not to die, De vita will give to posterity popular melodies and unpublished lyrics , such as So nato a lu Cilento e me ne vanto , today the anthem of Cilento .
Angelo collects his uncle's legacy , involves other musicians , and writes in his turn .
Step by step , something extraordinary comes out of it: the Cilentana authorial music spreads , which is played and told with the awareness that knowing one's own history and traditions is essential to being oneself, that knowing how to critically recognize one 's strengths and work on those of weakness is the basis of the development of a territory.
And I was born in Cilento and I'm proud of it , it should be interpreted exactly in this light.
It was supposed to be for a short time, but he has never returned to Milan since 1999.
Today, “Cilentana music” and Angelo Loia are an essential pair.
Today, if we think about the evenings at Oliveto a Mare , we can still hear Angelo's guitar .
And we can't wait to see him sitting on the big steps in the garden again,
while playing passionately.
For us and for you .
